CoolSculpting™ FAQs

What is CoolSculpting™?
CoolSculpting™ is a cryolipolysis body contouring treatment suitable for men and women who have unwanted stubborn excess fat that does not easily respond to diet and exercise.

CoolSculpting™ is a nonsurgical procedure that is intended to break down fat cells that are just  beneath the skin, by delivering controlled cooling to the area to be treated.  The fat cells in the treated area are gradually eliminated through the body’s normal metabolic processes over a period of months.

What areas can be treated?
Many areas are suitable for treatment, with the most commonly treated areas including submental (under the chin) and submandibular (under the jawline) areas, thighs, abdomen
and flanks, along with bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks (also known as banana rolls), and upper arms.
How are CoolSculpting™ and Liposuction different?
CoolSculpting™ is a nonsurgical treatment which does not breach the skin. Liposuction is a surgical type of treatment where fat is actively broken down and sucked out from under the skin.
How do I know if I’m suitable for CoolSculpting™?
Generally, if you can grab a roll of fat, it is suitable for CoolSculpting™. It is not regarded as a weight loss procedure, however,  if you are very overweight, we would suggest getting closer to your goal weight and then using CoolSculpting™ or truSculpt® to fine-tune your shape if necessary.
Is CoolSculpting™ painful?
There is a suction sensation as the targeted fat is sucked into the applicator. Controlled cooling is then delivered to the targeted fat, so you may feel intense cold, stinging, tingling, aching or cramping as the treatment begins but these sensations typically subside as the area becomes numb.  Upon removing the applicator, you may see a frozen bulge at the treatment area.
What is involved in the CoolSculpting™ process?
You will have an initial  consultation to discuss the procedure and assess whether you are a suitable candidate.  If you are a suitable candidate, a personalised treatment plan will be formulated.
What's involved on the day of treatment?
Prior to the treatment, the targeted area/s will be photographed to allow us to monitor results.  Your targeted areas will be marked out, then your clinician will position the appropriate applicator over the area.  Gentle suction draws the fat bulge into the applicator and the freezing process will begin.  Once finished, the handpiece is removed and the area is massaged using a special device.
When will I see results from CoolSculpting™?
The treated area gradually decreases in size over 12 or more weeks.  At the 12-week mark you will have a review with your clinician and an assessment will be made regarding any further treatment to the area.  Visible results can vary from person to person and multiple treatments may be required to reach your desired goal
Who is a CoolSculpting™ candidate?
The ideal candidate for the CoolSculpting™ procedure is seeking to decrease specific areas of fat, such as abdominal fat, love handles (flanks), double chin, saddle bags (bulky thighs) and/or back fat areas, where you can grab hold of a roll. The procedure is not intended for weight loss or obesity; nor is it a substitute for liposuction procedures that remove a large volume of fat. A good candidate should be relatively fit and have modest-size fat bulges in areas that are not easily reduced through diet or exercise.
