CoolSculpting™

Home / Fat Reduction / CoolSculpting™

CoolSculpting™ is a non-invasive procedure to gently and effectively reduce fat in targeted areas of the body. The result is a noticeable, natural-looking fat reduction in the treated areas, such as abdominal fat, love handles (flanks), double chin, saddle bags (bulky thighs) and/or back fat. To perform the CoolSculpting™ procedure, an applicator is attached to the desired area for fat reduction, and extracts energy (cooling) from the underlying fat tissue without damage to other tissues. When fat cells are exposed to precise cooling, a natural process of cell removal is triggered. The fat cells in the treated area are gradually eliminated through the body’s normal metabolic processes.

FAQs About CoolSculpting

What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a treatment which uses controlled cold to cause gradual reduction in volume of fatty areas which are out of proportion with other areas of the body.
What areas can be treated?
Many areas are suitable for treatment including areas on the torso – tummy bulges, muffin tops, love handles and back fat – as well as thighs and double chins.
How are CoolSculpting and Liposuction different?
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical treatment which does not breach the skin. Liposuction is a more-surgical type of treatment where fat is actively broken down and sucked out from under the skin.
Is CoolSculpting safe?
There a few major complications after CoolSculpting.
How do I know if I’m suitable for CoolSculpting?
Generally, if you can grab a roll of fat, it is suitable for CoolSculpting. It is not regarded as a weight loss procedure, however, so if you are very overweight, we would suggest getting closer to your goal weight and then using CoolSculpting to fine-tune your shape if necessary.
Is CoolSculpting painful?
There is a suction sensation as the roll of fat is sucked into the applicator and then it will feel cold. You then just need to get into a comfortable position for the time the applicator is on.
What is involved in the CoolSculpting treatment?
Once you’ve consulted with the doctor and decided on a treatment plan, the nurse will take various measurements and then position you for your treatment. A gel pad is applied and then the applicator over this. The applicator will be on for about 35 minutes. If other areas are to be treated, they may be done subsequently.
How many CoolSculpting treatments will I need?
This will depend on what needs to be achieved and your response.
What happens after a CoolSculpting procedure?
After the applicator is removed, the treated area looks a bit red and stands up like a block of butter. A vibration/shock wave treatment is applied for 5 minutes to increase the fat loss effect. The block look will have flattened. The skin can be treated as normal afterwards.
When will I see results from CoolSculpting?
The treated area gradually decreases in size over about 3 months. Usually not much is noticed until about 3 weeks has passed and then your clothes start to feel a bit looser. Obviously, it is helpful if you maintain a healthy lifestyle during the post-treatment phase.
Who is a CoolSculpting candidate?
The ideal candidate for the CoolSculpting™ procedure is seeking to decrease specific areas of fat, such as abdominal fat, love handles (flanks), double chin, saddle bags (bulky thighs) and/or back fat areas, where you can grab hold of a roll. The procedure is not intended for weight loss or obesity; nor is it a substitute for liposuction procedures that remove a large volume of fat. A good candidate should be relatively fit and have modest-size fat bulges in areas that are not easily reduced through diet or exercise.
