Tixel is a new way of tightening and rejuvenating the skin. It is not a laser, ultrasound or radiofrequency device but a novel technology that uses thermo-mechanical energy to remodel and improve skin, delivering improvements in fine lines and wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, acne scarring, skin tone/texture, age spots and skin laxity.
At higher settings, Tixel produces results similar to fractional CO2 lasers, however Tixel treatment has typically less discomfort during treatment and downtime, and the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation and infection are reduced.
How does Tixel work?
Thermo-mechanical energy gently heats the skin via a grid of tiny pyramid-shaped pins pressed for only a few-thousandth of a second onto the skin. As the contact made with the skin is so short, the treatment is typically much more comfortable compared with other resurfacing and skin tightening treatments.
Tixel works by evaporating micro-channels into the skin, which stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin quality. The treatment is fractional, that is, a matrix of channels is created with healthy untreated skin in between to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process and reduce downtime.
The channels formed can also be used to deliver cosmeceutical products into the skin to further enhance the results and target specific skin concerns such as pigmentation.
One of the main advantages of Tixel treatment is that it offers less downtime than other resurfacing technologies. Depending on the strength of treatment, downtime can be anywhere from nothing to one week.
