Everything you need to know about the MINT PDO thread lift

Thanks in part to walking celebrity endorsements from Eva Mendes, Gwyneth Paltrow and (allegedly) Bella Hadid, thread lifts have never been more popular.

Thread lifting is a unique, minimally invasive facial contouring procedure, with results that can rival the lifting effect of a surgical facelift – all with low downtime, minimal trauma to the skin and zero scarring.

What is thread lifting?

Thread lifting is a quick and minimally invasive procedure designed to elevate the central face and redefine the contours with a shorter downtime compared with facelift surgery, almost immediate results and fewer risks. It is especially beneficial for elevating the brows, cheeks and jowls, and can even be used on the neck and body.

The threads themselves contain tiny barbs or cogs for lifting and re-positioning the soft tissues. In addition to an immediate lifting effect, most of today’s threads stimulate the production of new collagen as the threads slowly break down in the body, causing the lifting to last for up to 12 months – more, in some cases.

Why we choose MINT threads

Not everyone wants to undergo facelift surgery and dermal fillers may not provide the lifting effect so many of our patients desire. MINT thread lifts provide suitable candidates a non-surgical alternative for those who may not be ready for surgery or request a non-surgical option.

MINT PDO threads are made from absorbable polydioxanone (PDO), a biodegradable suture material that has been safely used for more than 30 years in plastic surgery, gastroenterology, urology, gynaecology and ophthalmology.

MINT uses innovative patented technology in which the barbs are configured in a 360-degree helical pattern. These unique barbs securely anchor onto the 3D structure of the soft tissue from all directions for an effective and natural-looking pulling effect.

MINT’s revolutionary technology offers standout results while minimising trauma to the skin and underlying tissues, allowing our patients to benefit from a shorter recovery time.

What happens during a MINT PDO thread lift?

After a consultation with Dr Mary Dingley to ensure thread lifting is the best option for you, the procedure is performed here in our Brisbane clinic. It is relatively quick and no cutting or incisions are involved; local anaesthetic is typically all that is required for patients to remain comfortable throughout.

The threads integrate into the skin’s tissue and are inserted into the skin via a cannula and are pulled to produce a lifting effect.

There is minimal downtime involved with a MINT thread lift. Many of our patients find they can resume their everyday activities shortly after treatment.

What results can you expect from a MINT lift?

Some lifting can be seen immediately post-procedure. The body absorbs PDO threads in 6-8 months after insertion, but because MINT threads stimulate the production of collagen, results will continue to develop for a number of months.

Results can last up to one year, or more with good skin integrity. A MINT PDO thread lift can also be used in combination with fillers for optimised lifting and augmentation.
